Falak Debut Gig in Pakistan

It was a long time coming, but Falak finally made their live debut in Pakistan at the Basement Café. Throngs of fans from Karachi and beyond attended.

The night opened up with an incendiary performance by members of the local Aunty Disco Project (to clarify some misperceptions, the opening band was not the regular line up of Aunty Disco. Some reviews of their performance didn’t take this into account, and as a result have been overly harsh). Our thanks to them for adding to a great gig.

Falak took the stage and belted out all of all of its originals, including an encore performance of the new track ‘Burn’, as well as a couple of fun covers including the Nazia Hassan classic ‘Boom Boom’ and the Strings anthem ‘Sar kiye pahar’. The gig was a huge success, and great fun to boot. The crowd reception was incredible, far beyond anything we could have hoped for. You know who you are, and you were awesome.

Unfortunately, Falak’s entire lineup couldn’t be present as due to ongoing commitments in Canada, the US and Afghanistan. So our huge thanks to Danish Mirza of the UK based StoneTown Band for the wicked bass lines, and to Qaiser of the Strings for some truly incredible drum work.

Beyond everyone and everything else, our warmest thanks to our fans, new and old, who made it out to the show and lent us their support, and to everyone else of the FalakNation who has rooted for us and moshed with us over the years. As long as you guys keep coming back for more, so will we!

There was a lot of media support for the gig as well. Thanks to the good people from Aag, the Musik, Play, Dawn, Daily Times, and Instep who attended. This resulted in some very kind gig reviews in the media. Click here for the gig review in the Daily Times, here for the Dawn review, and here for a write up about us in the Toronto Star. For those who missed us at the Basement, the gig was also televised twice on Aag Tv for those who.

There’s more shows, videos and an album planned in the near future. Till then, be good and watch this space…
